Virtual Winemaker Event with Stellenrust, Argentine Sparkling and a big, bold Malbec from Paul Hobbs

With the days getting longer and warmer and as Hong Kong springs back to life, we’re excited to bring our members fresh selections, new types of events and promotions as things begin to heat up.

We recently hosted a virtual TOASST Tasting event with winemaker Tertius Boshoff from Stellenrust winery in South Africa. A big thanks to all who joined the event! Members shared how much they enjoyed the wines and being virtually transported to Stellenbosch as part of the tasting and meeting the winemaker. We look forward

On to the March Toasst box: From the heights of Uco Valley on the backdrop of the Andes in Argentina, to the ancient southwest French village of Cahors to the high altitude vineyards off of the Western Cape of South Africa, we take you to the corners of the earth in the search for thoughtful, interesting and approachable wines that we think you’ll love drinking.

Highlights from the Toasst March box:

We’re excited to feature another unique sparkling wine, the Zuccardi Blanc de Blancs from Mendoza, Argentina. Awarded the distinction of the World's Best Vineyard in 2020, Zuccardi has done a masterful job of showcasing Argentine sparkling wines made from grapes grown 1,100m above sea level in high altitude Uco Valley sitting on the backdrop of the Andes. Made by the  méthode traditionnelle, it shows intense aromas of pear, citrus, brioche, cream and honey balanced with a fine, mineral and fresh acidic finish. With volume on the palate, floral aromas and citrus acidity, this medium-bodied sparkling wine is a great option for those who prefer still wines with food and makes for a fun aperitif or food pairing.

Designed to be a pure expression of Verdicchio, the medium-bodied Santa Barbara Back to Basics Verdicchio is 100% organic wine with stainless steel fermentation was refined on the lees until bottling. A fun, fresh wine, it dances between perfume aromas, mineral, aromatic herbs, apple, ripe soft peaches and waxy, oily textured finish with bright acidity and high ABV at 14% that means business. The zingy acidity and body of the Verdicchio pairs well with seafood appetizers, flavorful fish such as tuna or mackerel or pasta with fresh herbs.

We’re always looking for wines from star winemaker Paul Hobbs and finally secured an allocation in the form of the Crocus Le Calcifère by Hobbs/Bertrand 2015. A powerhouse wine in a collaboration with 4th generation Cahors vintner Bertrand Vigourou, this wine aims to offer a new interpretation of Malbec of Cahors. Old world terroir meets new world vision, Le Calcifère means limestone content in the soils. Hot dark cherry fruit, blueberry, oak, vanilla, licorice and savoury notes with good acidity meets a chewy, sweet, velvety tannic finish. Tuck in with big, tender meat dishes and comfort food such as a traditional Coq au vin, slow cooked beef cheeks, roast lamb with garlic, or a duck confit.

Not getting a box this month and out of wine? Contact our wine concierge at info@toasst.co or order a Toasst wine pack on our Shop page. Send us your food adventures, tasting tips or thoughts on the wines that you’ve enjoyed as you travel through the box on Instagram or on Facebook.
