Highlights from the Toasst November box

A certified organic Hunter Valley blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Verdelho, the Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Aged Semillon 2007 blew us away with its stature and body and is a fun surprise for guests over for dinner. Inspired by the Queen's 1954 visit, it's been aged in French oak with a beautiful complexity, showing well-balanced ripe stone fruit, zippy citrus, subtle tropical notes with a hint of honey, oak, smoke and textured oiliness. High acidity on the palate with a roundabout way of sweetness, this is a wonderful Fall classic wine. Try with a mild double Gloucester or Gouda or foie gras or tuck in with a roast turkey, glazed ham, smoked pork chops, chicken pot pie or mushroom risotto.

Our die-hard red lovers will be delighted to see our score this month in the form of the Ornellaia Le Volte Toscana 2015. Insiders call it a "baby Ornellaia”, a very approachable blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from the famous Bordeaux-style winemaker near Bolgheri in Italy. With a seductive, alluring nose of rich black and red cherry fruit, herbal notes, earth, mushroom, and hint of chocolate and tobacco, it stands up as a lively partner to traditional Tuscan cuisine such as braised veal shanks or beef stew with garlic and herbs or experiment with grilled pork with rosemary and creamy polenta and Amy’s truly divine Chipotle Sausage and Sweet Potato Enchilada recipe here (also delicious with the Mount Pleasant semillon!)

Also we couldn’t help but include a sparkling for the November box given that many of our members have asked for ideas on an aperitif to kick off a Thanksgiving (or any occasion) dinner. A Sardinian take on a fresh, light and lively Spumante made via the tank method, the Argiolas Tagliamare Brut NV opens with white floral aromas and blossoms into a mineral, toasty biscuit nose with a textured, medium bodied finish.
