Highlights from the October TOASST box:

Otronia 45 Rugientes Pinot Noir, Patagonia, Argentina, 2018 - Hailing from the world's most southernmost vineyard at the 45th Parallel is the Otronia 45 Rugientes Pinot Noir 2018, a blend of different lots of Pinot Noir sourced from different blocks and blended by winemaker Juan Pablo Murgia to reflect the character of the Chubut wine region terroir. Characterized by intense fresh cherry and strawberry fruit aromas with cinnamon spice mingled with layers of earthy and savory meatiness with high acidity and crunchy, lean wine finish on the palate.

This cool climate Pinot Noir does well with a semi-soft cheese such as a Gruyère, Comté or Emmental. Pair with a roasted beet salad with arugula, goat cheese and strawberries or mains such as a grilled salmon with couscous, herb roasted turkey breast, veal chops with rosemary or tomato mushroom risotto.

Jean-Rene Germanier, Petite Arvine Valais AOC 2019 - With less than 1% of Arvine usually exported from Switzerland, we had to get our hands on this wine from top Swiss producer Jean-René Germanier, 3rd generation boutique winemaker hailing from southern Switzerland where the upper Rhone river runs through. Elegant, floral aromas with soft elderflower, gooseberry and tropical fruit on the nose, waxy, salinity on the palate with structured acidity, wet stone, long mineral finish with rounded mouthfeel.

With its high acidity and roundedness, this rich, medium-bodied white is a treat to pair with European or Asian cuisine. Try with an alpine cheese such as melted raclette with cornichons or pair with a smoked ham terrine, pan fried sole with lemon and capers or pumpkin and spinach ravioli. Experiment with shrimp and vegetable dumplings, curried coconut mussels or pad thai.

All through the month of October we’ll be featuring the winemakers and producers behind these special wines so don’t forget to check us out on Instagram and Facebook for food pairing inspiration or a quick virtual travel escape. Also be on the lookout for more events in the coming months, including another featured winemaker event in November with rising New Zealand star Rosie Menzies at Carrick Winery. You can find an exclusive lineup of Carrick wines available now on our site.
